Update: Modular Rigging System – Select Skin Joint

A lot of people have been asking to identify which skin joints to be selected to skin their geometry. With the latest version of the tool, a Skin Joints Set is created now along with the Rig. This set contains all the joints that are to be skinned to your character geometry. You can select the skin joints with “Edit>Select Skin Joint” menu in both the Main UI & the AutoRigger UI. Unfortunately for existing rigs, we cannot provide a script to select the skin joints. The reason being: Each user can customize the naming and the skin joints cannot be identified without some additional steps in their creation which are not present in the current version of the tool.

Tip for people who want to make a list of skin joints for existing characters:
1. Update Modular Rigging System to latest version.
2. In a new scene create a character with the same name and options as your already built character.
3. You can use the skin-joint list created as a reference to identify the skin joints in your old rig.

Variable Spline Solver – Sneak Peek Video

Blog post time. To give an update on what we are working on.

In the coming weeks we will be sharing our own methods on the creature-rigging process.

Our first upcoming update will be a video about a different method on something that you do commonly during your character rigging day-to-day sessions. A Spine Setup. Well, yes and no. Not exactly a spine setup but a Spline solver. It’s a custom spline solver which is used to create spine setups as well as any other block of a creäture of similar nature. Here’s a sneak peek at something we call “Variable Spline Solver”.

In the full video we will be showing how we use the Variable Spline Solver to create a spine setup of a creäture.

Greetings Good Folks,

First things first, Thank you for the amazing response to our website and the content. We have received quite a number of replies about the website, the content, the problems, the requests, the suggestions as well as emails of appreciation. It means a lot.

We are here again with more updates on CreatureRigs. We have added two videos and one creature rig in their respective section. This is the first batch as we will be rolling out more updates very soon.

Greetings from the CreatureRigs Team,

Welcome to our website. We, a couple of Tech-Artists (and geeks) decided to come up with our vision of having a platform where we can put out our ideas and discuss with everyone. We are fans of open-source, learning so much from the community and we would like to give something back. The reason creaturerigs.com was created.

We are CharacterTDs mainly working with Autodesk Maya among other software. Check out our Tools and Rigs available in the Download section of our website. Go Ahead, check it out, have interesting fun with it and we would love to have your feedback on anything and everything.

In the Coming weeks, we will continue to share more ideas, break down Animation Rigs with traditional setups, showcase our own setups and develop/maintain Auto-Rigging tools.

Lastly, we do have our jobs but what we are doing with CreatureRigs.com is a passion and quite a long-time wish. Maybe there should be a “beta” on our logo! Keep a lookout for updates!
